MP tries to get second home planning permission
An MP representing Truro and St Austell has been calling for second home buyers to apply for planning permission to use these properties as a second home.
In a report, Matthew Taylor has suggested that any buyer looking a property to use a second home should have to apply for planning permission to change the use from a residence to a holiday home.
This comes about because Cornwall is a popular destination for wealthy Londoners who have been buying up the limited housing stock only to use the properties once or twice a year during the summer.
The MP’s plan has however been flatly rejected by the housing minister Margaret Beckett, who said that this plan would not have any effect on the problem.
